Late breaking news: Gap Ramblers win back-to-back Saturday Championships.

The mighty Gap Ramblers followed up their maiden Saturday league championship (season 2015/16) with a comprehensive and dominant performance clinching their second championship title in fine style on Saturday March 25th with two matches still left to play. A determined knock of 62 not out by last years skipper David Varley alongside a dashing innings of 30 by Craig Johnstone allowed the Ramblers to chase down the Crusaders score of 163 with just a few balls to spare. Earlier in the day miserly bowlers Stu Tohill (1/17) and Belan Aiyadorai (3/27) put the pressure on the opposition to restrict them to a very gettable total. As usual, the quality of fielding and grit shown in the field was fantastic and the spirit amongst the players was first class.

The Ramblers have enjoyed great success this year with 10 wins from 11 games (so far) due to the great depth of talent in the Rambler list and great team performances throughout the season. The Ramblers success is due to the evenness of all players’ contributions and not on just one or two star performances. Having said that, Craig Johnstone looks likely to win the Saturday batting averages for the league and bowlers Belan Aiyadorai, Satyendra Singh and Charles McInerney are pushing to claim the best overall bowling averages in the league as well.

Congratulations to the Gap Ramblers for winning the league (again)!
Justin Alexander - JA (Proud Gap Ramblers captain)
