Mini and Youth

HKCC Rugby has an affiliation with Sandy Bay for Mini and Youth Rugby and a very well run Rugby programme with over 800 children aged 4 to 18 years, participating on Sundays. HKCC Rugby has many of its current and former first team players involved in coaching the Minis and Youth. All coaches are working under the guidance of  Ben Roberts, as the lead Technical Coach.  Ben is one of HKCC 1XV players and Captain of the HK XV Rugby Team.

HK All Girls 7s in Singapore

It was akin to a small military operation – transport, house and feed approximately 200 rugby-playing girls for the first HK All Girls International 7s Tour to Singapore. Organisers extraordinaire, Joe Stanion (Minis) and Tim Woodward (Youth), worked side by side with club administrators to coordinate logistics and keep everyone motivated, while also emphasizing Unity and a One Tour principle.

Needless to say, the Sandy Bay RFC teams, who travelled alongside girls from Sai Kung, Football Club and Flying Kukris among others, had a fantastic and successful time.

The 2017 HKU Sandy Bay Mini Rugby Festival

Mini rugby festivals are a great speciality of the Hong Kong rugby community. The 19 Mini Rugby Clubs scattered throughout the territory have distinctive characters which seasoned observers can identify including the wonderful family support of Causeway Bay Monkey Club, the sublime evasive ball handling skills of Tai Po and the always excellently drilled and spirited contribution of Valley. The Clubs come together in about 6 major festivals to practise the skills they have learnt in the training session against friends from other clubs.

On 26th November 2017, more than 3,500 mini rugby players and their supporters, probably 10,000 people in total, came together for the festival hosted by HKCC’s Mini Rugby Feeder Club, HKU Sandy Bay at the magnificent Stanley Ho Sports Centre. It was a great day of entertainment with mini rugby players between ages 4 to 12, as well as people enjoying alfresco shopping, for all sorts of Christmas presents and useful sports kit from Turkish Towels to Ozzie Cozzies.
